This page is a prototype Wiki implementation by Oliver Hoffmann on the basis of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Radioactive Waste Management Glossary Consultancy Report from May 2011. In this consultancy, terms in the [2003 version of the IAEA Radioactive Waste Management Glossary] were reviewed and compared against the [2007 version of the IAEA Nuclear Safety Glossary] in order to minimize duplications across these glossaries. As a result, a large number of terms were marked for deletion from the waste management glossary, some of these should be covered in the Nuclear Safety Glossary and some terms with unclear application area were identified. In addition, the terms Waste Category, Reuse And Redevelopment and Demolition were suggested as useful additions to the waste management glossary.

Please note that although Category:Decommissioning was not regarded a subcategory of Category:Radioactive Waste Management by the consultants, but a seperate category in the broader field of Category:Radioactive Waste Management And Decommissioning, the terms marked for inclusion in the Radioactive Waste Management Glossary have all been added to the Category:Radioactive Waste Management in this prototype for the sake of brevity and consistency with the glossary scope. Please note also that categories are not inherited in MediaWiki (for instance meaning: although Category:Processing is a subcategory of Category:Predisposal, the terms in Category:Processing are only listed in Category:Predisposal if they are explicitly added there) and some terms marked for deletion from the glossary were categorized in sub-fields nevertheless, so for instance Decommissioning Phase was marked for deletion in the consultancy but was also categorized as Category:Decommissioning. For a full review the list of all pages can be used. Detailed comments for each term can be found in the discussion pages for each term.

If the use of MediaWiki for online glossary review goes ahead, extensions such as [those offered by semantic mediawiki plus] can be used for automatic tagging and updating of references. Once the online review has reached a point of maturity, the online glossary can also be printed as a book, for instance with the help of the [collection extension].
